Hi! My name is Ellen Converse and I am a junior studying public relations and history at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa. I am originally from Storm Lake, Iowa where I lived with my parents and two older brothers. As soon as I set foot on Drake University for my initial visit, I knew that Drake was where I needed to be. Three years later, and the same sentiment remains. Drake has pushed me to approach situations in innovative ways and has taught me to always be reaching for improvements, whether academically or professionally. Because of Drake, I am always looking for a new challenge to conquer.

This past year I have served as the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) for my sorority, Kappa Alpha Theta. Being a part of my sorority has provided me with new experiences and helped me gain many lifelong friends. I am also the Communications Director for Drake’s chapter of PRSSA. Last summer I was a Communications intern at AARP Iowa. In this role I wrote press releases, blog posts, planned events, and so much more! Currently I manage Drake’s Office of Community Engaged Learning and Service’s social media.

About Ellen’s On-Campus Responsibilities

In my role as CAO in my sorority, I am responsible for all the paperwork that happens between our chapter and the National Headquarters. Additionally, I am also in charge of the Nomination Committee which chooses the next year’s officers, structuring our traveling consultant’s visit, and I head our Bylaws Committee.

My responsibilities as Communications Director for PRSSA include managing PRSSA’s social media (Facebook and Twitter) and sending out weekly reminder emails for the meetings. These two leadership roles have helped me grow as a leader and become a more responsible and organized individual. Additionally, I have also become more connected to each organization by holding a leadership position within it.

Ellen’s Future Aspirations

I have always loved history and this year I decided to turn my history minor into a double major. After adding this major I finally feel like I have found my dream profession. My career aspirations are to work for a museum or historical site in their communications department. Learning that I could my love for PR with my love for history and turn it into a career was very exciting. Working for the Newseum or any of the Smithsonian museums is my dream job!

A Little More About Ellen

My favorite types of days are those that I get to spend surrounded with my friends and family. I have always enjoyed being outdoors as much as possible, so activities such as biking, hiking, and kayaking are some of my favorite pastimes. My favorite trip that I’ve ever taken was my J-term travel to Thailand last year. I binge watch Brooklyn 99 as much as possible and have an unhealthy obsession with Twix candy bars.
